Cats and Flappers

When I was recently asked to make some N Gauge cats, my first thought was 'is that possible?' My own cat doesn't stand higher than my knee, and N Gauge men are around 11.5mm tall. I thought it would be a good idea to have some pets in different scales in my range of figures, so I drew them on my laptop.

Fortunately, I had just bought a new 3D printer, so this was its first big test.

And it was a test that was passed better than I could have hoped. I printed cats in 1/43, 1/76, 1/87, 1/120 and 1/152.

I cast some in pewter and painted the N gauge cats. They are barely 2mm tall and still recognisable so I think thats a win!

Last week I had another unusual request. It was for my 1920/30s seated passengers set OO18, but in G3 or 1/22.6 scale. As these new figures started life as 3D drawings it was an simple task to change their size and print some in resin. I hadn't really intended these figures to be reproduced this large (if standing the men would be around 76mm tall) but I think it worked well.

A steady stream of my Dads old figures cross my workbench for repair and repainting. The latest pair to receive a complete repaint were Commander Clouston and Sir Francis Drake.

Commander Clouston is depicted as my father remembered him at Dunkirk, although Dad didn't know his name at the time.
